Job Summary

Geisinger offers a Patient Care Technician position with a $1500 sign‑on bonus for eligible candidates, a minimum hiring rate of $18.94 plus increased rates for experienced individuals, and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. The role also includes up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.

Geisinger piloting a new model of care on Advanced Acute Care Units at Danville, Bloomsburg, and Shamokin campuses. This model utilizes more Patient Care Technicians to perform duties that do not require a nursing license, allowing greater career advancement, autonomy, and involvement in patient care.

Primary Duties
  • Facilitate activities of daily living (hygiene, toileting, mobility, meals)
  • Collect vital signs and daily weights
  • Conduct point‑of‑care testing
  • Turn and reposition patients

  • Remove Foley catheter and peripheral IV
  • Remove nasogastric tube and perform nasal swabs

Care Team Responsibilities

Responsible for performing clerical duties and direct patient care activities, enhancing the care team’s ability to provide quality care.

  • Provide patient care as directed within the nursing assistant scope of practice and multidisciplinary care plan.
  • Observe, document, and report patient physical needs and changes in condition to licensed personnel.
  • Obtain and maintain specimen integrity per policy and physician order.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living and ongoing continuum of care, including hygiene and changing linens.
  • Provide one‑to‑one patient safety watch as assigned.
  • Accurately process specimens and transport them to laboratory on time.
  • Perform point‑of‑care testing and instrument maintenance and quality control.
  • Troubleshoot and correct equipment and supply issues.
  • Preceptor and mentor new staff and students.
  • Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths; transcribe and process orders.
  • Release and confirm ordered tests.
  • Cooperate with patient transportation for tests.
  • Obtain and communicate electronic information relevant to the unit; schedule tests, fax consults, etc.
  • Assist in ordering supplies and managing stock.
  • Coordinate with food services regarding patient diets.
