Credit Underwriter - Business Banking
Job Purpose:
The role is responsible for preparing credit applications and structuring facilities for Business Banking customers across multiple industries. Pre-approval activities of managing credit risk including financial analysis, account monitoring, highlighting early warning signals and ensuring good credit discipline, whilst preparing credit proposals / related documents.
Cover the end-to-end activities in collaboration with different teams (including RM, FSAU & Support) to ensure optimal credit quality of applications (renewal as well as new to bank) within the defined timelines.
Key Accountabilities:Credit origination and management/ Customer Centricity
- Ensure the highest standard of credit quality in submissions through a well-defined structure and thorough financial analysis
- Ensure regular interaction with customers to validate relevant information. Ensure appropriate recommendations are captured and detailed out in the credit applications
- Provide professional advice on credit risk management matters, industry/product specialism and structured solutions
- Exercise judgment in the evaluation and recommendation of Credit proposals including providing inputs in business and credit policy/process development
- Along with the RM, monitor and control the respective portfolio and ensure complete compliance with policies & procedures
- Be the point of contact for credit management purposes for accountants, auditors, regulators, solicitors and other professionals and advise on risk reward and challenge pricing, where appropriate
- Present Credit proposals directly to approvers and/ or Central Credit Committee
- Work closely with Business to achieve the budgeted volumes
- Carry out regular (daily) reviews of the monitoring reports (regarding renewals etc.) that are required from time to time. (TTs, past dues and excess to be monitored by RMs and Approvers, to ensure credit underwriters focus on credit proposals)
- Maintain a close watch on customers where the limit renewal is late in being submitted and for customers where limits have been agreed but are pending activation. Covenant adherence based on semi-annual / annual accounts forwarded by unit to be monitored in conjunction with Business Unit. Any condition required to be fulfilled post-approval to be diarised and followed up, as appropriate
- Ensure data integrity and attention to detail
- Ensure management of Asset Credit Quality and Concentration (at Unit level)
- Contribute towards ensuring NBF’s credit rating remains at investment grade
- Ensure enterprise-wide risk management and compliance with policies and procedures, minimal no. of audit related findings and complete alignment with risk appetite framework
- Ensure identification of EWS (Early Warning Signs)
- Ensure achievement of department level learning hours and upskilling of the teams in line with the overall learning & development plan
- Ensure timely completion of HR related activities including performance management, engagement survey, other activities etc.
- Ensure high levels of teamwork and collaboration across different teams and across departments
Experience:
Education level
Graduate Degree in Commerce or BBA with major in Finance or Banking
Work ExperienceAt least 5 to 7 years of all-round Banking experience including exposure to Credit, Operations and Trade Finance areas. Core experience of at least 3 to 6 years in Credit Department/ Relationship Management is essential.
Good writing skills for ensuring high quality credit proposals. Prior experience of writing credit proposals and seeking credit approvals is a must.
Strong product, legal knowledge, collateral knowledge and understanding of security documentation (Facility Offer Letter & supporting sec docs)
