Position: High School Band Director Music Educator - 2026-2027
Position Summary

Sharon High School is seeking a passionate and skilled Band Director to join our Performing Arts Department. Under the supervision of the Principal, the Band Director will inspire students to develop their musical abilities, creativity, and appreciation for the performing arts through engaging, high-quality instruction aligned with district curriculum.

This educator will foster a dynamic, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment that supports artistic growth, collaboration, and excellence. The ideal candidate brings strong instrumental and conducting expertise, a commitment to equity and belonging, and a desire to contribute meaningfully to a vibrant school music program.

Program Responsibilities

The teaching assignment may include:
  • Concert Band
  • Symphonic Band
  • Jazz Band
  • Additional semester courses such as Music Theory, Guitar, Music Technology, and Piano (based on enrollment and program needs)
The Band Director plays a central role in the musical life of the school and community, leading performances and supporting student participation in festivals such as MICCA, Districts, and other regional events, for which the director receives a stipend.

Additional stipend opportunities may be available, including:
  • Marching Band/ Pep Band Director

  • Jazz Band
  • Tri-M
Essential Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based music instruction aligned with district goals
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that promotes student learning and creativity
  • Develop and implement a balanced music program that includes rehearsal, performance, and music literacy
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners, including students with disabilities
  • Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction to support growth
  • Select and teach a diverse repertoire representing a variety of genres, cultures, and historical perspectives
  • Conduct ensembles and coordinate performances, concerts, and festival participation
  • Promote culturally responsive teaching practices and contribute to an equitable learning environment
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and grading
  • Manage inventory, maintenance, and care of instruments and equipment
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
  • Collaborate with Performing Arts staff and participate actively in faculty meetings and school initiatives
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning and growth
Additional Responsibilities
  • Support and uphold school and district expectations for student behavior
  • Foster strong relationships with families and encourage parent/guardian involvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school or district leadership
Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field required
  • Master's degree preferred
Licensure
  • Massachusetts DESE licensure in Music (PreK-12 or appropriate level)
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong conducting skills and proficiency with woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments
  • Knowledge of current music education pedagogy and best practices
  • Ability to design engaging curriculum and differentiate instruction
  • Familiarity with music technology and instructional tools
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Commitment to reflective practice and continuous improvement
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families
  • Dedication to equity, inclusion, and supporting the Sharon High Schools Mission and Vision
Selection Process

Selected candidates will participate in a comprehensive interview process, which may include:
  • Submission of a teaching portfolio
  • A demonstration lesson or rehearsal
  • Demonstration of instrumental proficiency
