DESCRIPTION:

Do you thrive in a vertically integrated manufacturing environment? Are you energized by solving complex problems alongside tight-knit, cross-functional teams to rapidly bring new and existing products to market? Do you enjoy continuously improving legacy products that have been trusted for decades? If so, we invite you to explore this opportunity.

Senior Metal Bellows (SMB) has been developing custom-engineered, bellows-based solutions for more than 70 years, serving some of the world's most demanding and safety-critical industries. Our Critical Support Team (CS Team) plays a vital role in maintaining consistent product flow while addressing complex challenges in design, manufacturing, and supplier performance throughout the production lifecycle.

Our customers rely on us to deliver highly specialized solutions that are not available anywhere else in the market. As a result, our work is both technically challenging and impactful.

We are seeking a motivated Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our CS Team. In this role, you will contribute to both new product development and the continuous improvement of established products with long service lives across diverse industries. This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact-whether by advancing innovative designs or sustaining the legacy of proven solutions used for decades.

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Perform complicated and advanced mechanical engineering work on high complexity products, assemblies, and manufacturing processes. Responsible for the overall technical integrity and success of assigned projects of custom edge-welded metal bellows assemblies, accumulators, reservoirs, compressors, as well as many non-bellows products and components. Plan, organize, and lead a variety of technical projects involving the investigation, identification, testing, and evaluation of mechanical and electromechanical components and assemblies for a wide range of applications in compliance with customers' requirements.

The role requires a high degree of technical competence, business awareness, and adherence to engineering processes and procedures in order to perform the duties under minimal supervision, and with a high level of autonomy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Provide technical leadership in Material Review Board (MRB) and Returned Material Authorization (RMA) activities, including final disposition authority and risk assessment for nonconforming materials while working closely with Quality Engineering.

* Lead complex root cause investigations using advanced structured problem-solving methodologies (5-Why, Fishbone, fault tree analysis, statistical methods) where applicable, ensuring sustainable resolution of systemic issues.

* Define and approve technically sound, compliant rework and salvage strategies, balancing quality, cost, and delivery considerations.

* Analyze manufacturing and quality data, identifying trends, systemic risks, and high-impact product/process improvement opportunities.

* Drive the development, implementation, and validation of containment, corrective, and preventive actions (CAPA), ensuring effectiveness and long-term process stability.

* Establish and standardize technical documentation, including work instructions, engineering reports, and best practices, ensuring alignment with quality and regulatory requirements.

* Serve as a primary technical resource to production, proactively identifying risks, resolving escalated issues, and ensuring manufacturing readiness and robustness.

* Prepare and process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), including cross-functional alignment, risk assessment, validation planning, and implementation of design, tooling, and process improvements.

* Drive cross-functional collaboration across production, quality, supply chain, and engineering to resolve complex issues and optimize manufacturing performance.

* Champion continuous improvement initiatives, applying Lean and Six Sigma principles to reduce variation, improve yield, and increase operational efficiency.

* Mentor and develop junior engineers, providing technical guidance, coaching, and knowledge sharing to elevate team capability.

Qualifications

JOB FUNCTIONS:

DESIRABLE SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS

* Minimum 5 years relevant manufacturing engineering experience.

* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field from an ABET-accredited program.

* Strong proficiency in GD&T principles and practices.

* Demonstrated Project Management Skills with the ability to lead cross functional initiatives.

* Experience with the following manufacturing processes:
Stamping, Cleaning, Machining, Welding, Heat Treatment, Brazing, Hydraulic/Pneumatic testing, Inspection, and Packaging.

* Strong understanding the Lean mindset, Six-Sigma principles, and statistical analysis.

* Excellent collaboration skills to work with operators and cross functional teams to identify root causes and implement robust, sustainable solutions.
