Licensed Electrician – Solar PV (Residential & Commercial)

The Licensed Electrician installs, connects, tests, and commissions residential and commercial rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. This role works primarily in the field on rooftops and at customer sites, ensuring all electrical work meets Massachusetts Electrical Code, NEC, and local utility standards while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and reliability.

Responsibilities
  • Install, wire, and connect solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on residential and commercial rooftops.
  • Perform electrical tie-ins to main service panels, subpanels, and utility interconnections for solar systems.
  • Install inverters, disconnects, combiner boxes, monitoring equipment, and related electrical components.
  • Read and interpret solar plans, electrical schematics, blueprints, and site layouts to complete installations accurately.
  • Ensure all installations comply with Massachusetts Electrical Code (527 CMR 12.00), the National Electrical Code (NEC), and local utility requirements.
  • Conduct system testing, commissioning, and functional verification of new solar PV systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and system performance issues during installation and commissioning.
  • Work safely on rooftops, including pitched roofs, using proper fall protection and safe work practices.
  • Assist with mounting solar panels, racking systems, and related hardware as needed.
  • Coordinate daily activities with solar installers, project managers, inspectors, and other field personnel.
  • Travel to multiple job sites throughout the region to complete installations, service, and inspections.
  • Adhere strictly to OSHA safety standards and all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Identify, report, and mitigate electrical and fall hazards on job sites.
  • Ensure all work passes local electrical inspections and meets utility approval requirements.
  • Diagnose and repair issues in existing solar PV systems, including electrical and component failures.
  • Perform system upgrades, routine maintenance, and service calls on installed solar PV systems.
  • Document all work performed, including test results, repairs, and materials used, and maintain accurate job records.
  • Support general installation tasks and hands-on field work, including occasional general labor duties.
Essential Skills
  • Valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrician License (required).
  • Experience working as a licensed electrician in field or construction environments.
  • Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), especially Article 690 for solar photovoltaic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical diagrams, schematics, and solar layouts.
  • Proficiency in electrical installation, conduit work, and terminations for residential and commercial applications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and solar PV components effectively.
  • Comfort working at heights and on rooftops, including pitched roofs, with proper safety equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining safety and productivity.
  • Willingness to perform hands-on installation work, including physically demanding tasks.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to multiple job sites within the region.
  • Availability to work overtime and occasionally on weekends as project needs require.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with solar PV system installation, commissioning, or service (strongly preferred; training may be provided for the right candidate).
  • Experience in commercial or industrial electrical construction environments.
  • Familiarity with solar system components such as inverters, disconnects, combiner boxes, and monitoring systems.
  • Experience with construction sites and coordination with project managers, installers, and inspectors.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on code compliance, safety, and quality workmanship.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with field teams and inspectors.
  • Ability to maintain clear and accurate documentation of work performed and job site conditions.
