Job Description
$65,000+ first year; trained drivers average $75,000 per year. Monday‑Friday early morning start. Local routes only, no nights or weekends. $7,500 hiring bonus available with a valid CDL A – previous employment at a Performance Food Group (PFG) owned company within the last 6 months disqualifies the bonus.
Position PurposeThis entry‑level driver training role involves learning to operate a tractor‑trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate routes—including local, over‑the‑toad (OTR), shuttle, and overnight assignments—to deliver and unload food and food‑related products. The trainee must complete all company policies and Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). interact professionally with customers, vendors, and co‑workers, and perform duties that support the organization.
Position Responsibilities- Attend and successfully complete the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program; maintain required training documentation.
- Ride‑with and assist the driver trainer during deliveries; follow all trainer instructions.
- Perform daily safety checks (pre‑/post‑trip) and DOT compliance inspections of tractor, truck, and trailer; report safety issues and required repairs.
- Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines; immediately report any safety hazards.
- Inspect trailers for proper loading and securing of freight; perform item counts and verify invoices.
- Drive to and deliver customer orders according to scheduled routes.
- Unload products, perform damage control checks, scan items, and obtain required signatures; collect payment when applicable.
- Secure all equipment, freight, and trailers at all times.
- Unload damaged goods and returns, and record necessary paperwork.
- Record hours of service and log them per Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness of tractor, loading dock area, and trailers; secure all equipment at shift’s end.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- 0‑6 months commercial driving experience.
- Valid CDL A.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Meet all state licensing and certification requirements.
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
- Pass post‑offer drug test and road test.
- Attain or have a current DOT Health Card.
- Ability to hand‑lift and use two‑wheeler, lift gate, or other equipment to move and stack product cases; typical freight ranges from ~60 to 90 pounds.
$65,000 per year on average.
