The Commercial Plumbing Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all field operations related to plumbing systems on commercial construction projects. This role ensures that work is completed safely, efficiently, on time, and in accordance with specifications and local codes. The superintendent manages plumbing crews, coordinates with subcontractors and vendors, and works closely with project managers, inspectors, and other trades to ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate all plumbing field activities on commercial job sites
- Interpret blueprints, specifications, and project documents to ensure compliance and quality
- Schedule, manage, and direct field personnel, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Ensure proper installation of plumbing systems including water supply, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, gas piping, and hydronic systems
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor work progress, enforce safety compliance, and resolve field issues
- Coordinate inspections with local authorities and ensure all installations meet applicable codes and standards
- Track material usage, labor hours, and project progress; report to project management
- Collaborate with other trades to avoid conflicts and maintain efficient workflow
- Train, mentor, and evaluate plumbing crew members
- Maintain a clean and organized job site
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in commercial plumbing
- Journeyman or Master Plumber License (as required by local jurisdiction)
- Deep knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, installation methods, and building codes
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficiency with construction management software and digital tools is a plus
- OSHA 30 Certification preferred
- Valid driver's license with reliable transportation
- Work is primarily performed on active construction sites
- Exposure to outdoor conditions, heights, loud noises, and varying weather
- Requires physical activity including lifting, standing, walking, climbing ladders, and bending
