The City is hiring for a Communications Intern! This internship opportunity will serve as a training ground for college level students enrolled in or graduated from a journalism, business or public administration program with an emphasis or concentration in Communications or Public Relations. Attempts will be made to make assignments that will broaden the employee's experience and benefit the City organization.

This employee should possess strong communication, writing, organizational, social media and public relations skills. The hiring range for this position begins at $16 per hour for current college students, and $17.50 per hour for graduates of a bachelor's program.

Position Responsibilities

Content Creation. Draft web content to increase public understanding of the value of the City's services and the City's role in creating a safe, sustainable and engaging community. Create and draft content for weekly e-newsletters, quarterly newsletter, etc.

Photography and Videography. Take pictures and/or videos of assigned locations and at community events for use on social media and in brochures and other publications including All Things Hometown. Help the Communications Director work with City departments to schedule and shoot social media videos and additional content.

Meetings and Special Events. Attend public meetings or public engagement events (i.e. neighborhood meetings) and draft articles or news releases based on the outcomes. Assist with City events such as Moonlight Market, PARKED!, etc.

Research and Analytics. Review and report on website and social media analytics. Help design strategies to build strong relationships with target audiences on social media channels.

Special Projects. Works alongside other City interns to conduct research, complete projects, and give presentations to City Staff when appropriate.

Other communication related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Requirements

* A minimum of two years in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in communications or public relations.

* Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously.

* Proficient in Microsoft Office and social media platforms and applications.

Or any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the responsibilities identified in this job description.

Work Schedule

This position requires a commitment of 40 hours per week during the summer months. Schedule will be primarily Monday - Friday daytime hours with alterations to schedule determined by department needs. Attendance at weekend and evening events is required.
