Job Description
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
This contract position for Special Education Teachers is based in Shawnee, KS, supporting multiple vacancies within the Kansas City, KS public school system. Opportunities are available for educators experienced in both resource and self-contained classrooms, across a range of grade levels from Kindergarten through 12th grade.
Available positions include:- Life Skills Teachers (2) at Caruthers Elementary
- Autism Teacher (1) at Douglas Elementary
- Life Skills/Medically Fragile Teacher (1) at Frances Willard
- Structured Learning Classroom (SLC) Teachers (7) across Lowell Brune, New Chelsea, Stony Point South, Welborn Elementary, Argentine, Central, and Eisenhower
- Medically Fragile Teacher (1) at Silver City
- Life Skills/SAILS Teacher (1) at Silver City
- Behavior Support Classroom (BSC) Teacher (1) at Arrowhead
Caseload sizes typically range from 8 to 18 students.
Qualifications and Experience- Active Kansas teaching licensure in Special Education is required
- Experience working with diverse special education needs including life skills, autism, medically fragile, and behavior support populations is highly valued
- Ability to manage both resource and self-contained classroom settings effectively
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to student needs
- Provide specialized instruction and support to students with a variety of disabilities
- Collaborate with school staff and families to promote student success and inclusion
- Monitor and document student progress in accordance with district guidelines
