Qualifications- Credential requirements:
None required - Education:
High school, GED or equivalent experience in lieu of a high school diploma. - Training or
Experience:
Prefer an individual who is dependable and has experience working with children.
Performs semi‑skilled level duties under general supervision of the building administrator to assist students in safely crossing the street at assigned crossings. The incumbent will interpret policies and procedures and follow predetermined solutions established by higher level supervision or operating procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies and Abilities- Communication skills:
Must possess oral, written, or business communication skills to exchange information, give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries. - Reading and interpreting routine written or printed material.
- Regular contact with children, teachers, staff, and parents/guardians of students.
- Ability to interpret and translate facts and information, explaining and advising students on the rules.
- Assist students with crossing streets to ensure their safety and well‑being.
- Remain at the crossing for the entire duration specified by the school principal.
- Report to the assigned crossing site on time, including on bad weather days. Valid school closings reported to the public media will be accepted as proper leave from assignment.
- Report any un‑cooperative student to the school principal.
- Wear the school‑provided vest and use a hand‑held stop sign to be as visible as possible.
- Never attempt to direct traffic, except in the case of an emergency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Successful performance requires good people skills to deal with difficult situations, assist students with special needs, control difficult students, and resolve problems effectively.
- Follow safety guidelines and policies so that students can cross busy streets safely.
- Adhere to school dress standards, punctuality, dependability, and other district requirements.
- Demonstrate creativity, initiative, and effective problem‑solving.
Employee does not supervise other employees.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions- Employee works part‑time and does not have to do any physical lifting.
- Must possess hearing/speaking ability sufficient to communicate with students, parents, drivers, and others.
- Requires working outdoors with temperature changes.
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District (175‑day contract).
