The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) is a dynamic, dedicated service agency that provides leadership, resources, support and accountability to the state's K-12 education system. KSDE administers the state's governance of education, standards and assessments, special education services, child nutrition and wellness, title programs and services, career and technical education, and financial aid. It is the goal of the agency to provide all Kansas children with equal access to a quality, high-level education that promotes student achievement and prepares all students for global success.

The department is governed by the Kansas State Board of Education, but the day-to-day administration of the agency is the responsibility of the Commissioner of Education, who is appointed by the Board of Education.

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

The Marketing Specialist supports the agency's communication and outreach efforts by developing and executing marketing strategies that promote programs, initiatives and key messages. This position is responsible for creating compelling content, leading campaign development and ensuring consistent messaging across platforms to enhance public understanding and engagement with Kansas public education.

The role collaborates with teams across the agency to translate complex information into clear, audience-focused messaging that supports agency priorities and strengthens its public presence.

Required

Minimum Qualifications:

Three years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations or a related field.

Preferred Skills and/or

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or a related field.

* Strong writing and editing skills with experience developing content for multiple platforms.

* Knowledge of Associated Press style and digital content best practices.

* Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

* Strong interpersonal, organizational and critical thinking skills.

Preferred Experience:

* Experience developing and executing marketing and social media campaigns.

* Experience engaging diverse audiences through digital platforms.

* Experience producing or supporting podcast or multimedia content.

* Familiarity with education-related topics or public sector communications.

* Experience with photography and producing videos.

* Experience with design and multimedia tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere Pro Video Editing.
