The Cloud Infrastructure Architect is responsible for the planning, design, development, and implementation of public and private cloud architecture and strategy for the enterprise. This level of work includes hardware and software diagrams and thorough documentation for cloud‑based recommendations and solutions provided to team leadership, senior leadership, and executive leadership for review.

Additional Responsibilities and ScopeThis individual will work closely with Security, Network, and Application Architects, as well as team leadership to ensure all compliance needs are met for HIPAA, PHI, and other regulatory compliance needs. This individual should be well versed in cloud and hybrid cloud product offerings from Microsoft, VMware, Amazon, and other cloud services to provide the right solution to ensure UKHS will be more productive, secure, and resilient.
The Infrastructure Cloud Architect will collaborate with the Backup Engineer to back up data in the public cloud and from private to public cloud, as well as collaborate with the Storage Engineer to evaluate storage tiering and archiving opportunities. Close collaboration with application owners to evaluate the benefits and challenges of migrating applications to the public cloud will also be required.
This individual should be well‑versed in virtualization technologies for both public and private cloud, Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy implementation and management, as well as foundational networking technologies. This position will also require implementation of proper monitoring and metrics of both public and private cloud infrastructure.
Responsibilities And Essential Job Functions- Ability to document and diagram complex cloud infrastructure solutions and present them back to all levels of leadership
- Participates in planning sessions with all levels of technical and non‑technical engineering and leadership throughout the health system
- Leads the engineering, planning, deployment, and automation of virtual and cloud‑based infrastructure
- Has the ability to mentor other technical staff in cloud technologies at all levels of understanding and can adjust the message accordingly
- Assists in identifying, planning, and migration of on‑premises applications suitable for migration to the public cloud
- Capable of participating and helping create a well‑informed cloud strategy and implementation as well as driving adoption of automation and public and private cloud‑based technologies and principals for the organization
- Evaluates and estimates cloud infrastructure costs to assist with budget planning and long‑term strategies
- Capable of creating plans to mitigate risks that security and governance teams identify through Pen testing, security bulletins, and other industry publications
- Offers guidance for infrastructure movement techniques including application resiliency, data and data center migrations, and application adoption to public and private cloud platforms
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department

- High School Graduate
- 10 or more years of experience in IT field
- Bachelor's Degree in IT or related field or 2:1 equivalent experience
- Master's Degree in IT or related field
