Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

This Road Design Leader position is located in Topeka, at the Eisenhower State Office Building, and is within the Bureau of Road Design. This position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating road design projects and administering engineering policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

* Administer policies and procedures to be followed by squad personnel and consulting engineering firms, in the study of project locations, completion of project design, and other related assignments. Represents the Bureau in design related meetings, field checks, and public meetings. Serves as the engineer who administers the project during the Preliminary Engineering process. Provides leadership in coordinating with other Bureaus and agencies during the design process.

* Guide the squad leader in planning actions and organizing the efforts of the squad in order to complete projects on schedule. Coordinates with other sections and bureaus and facilitates the initiation of required procedures. Monitors the status and progress of consultants and in-house projects

* Serve as quality control engineer for the bureau and advisor to the squad leader for major complex road design projects or administrative matters. Uses creativity, foresight, and seasoned engineering judgement in anticipating and solving complex engineering problems and organizing programs and projects. This requires the incumbent remain current and have an authoritative knowledge of road design criteria, practices, policies, and procedures.

* Assign projects and coordinates the utilization of the engineering staff and technicians to effectively utilize the skills and expertise within the squad. Works with other squads to share resources and address critical needs. Directs completion of work in relation to project priority and correct procedures and directs the process of developing solutions to special design problems.
