Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
This Engineering Associate I position is located in Topeka, at the Eisenhower State Office Building, and is within the Bureau of Traffic Engineering. Successful candidates may be appointed at a higher level dependent upon experience and qualifications. Learn and experience the features involved in building major projects in the field by becoming a vital member of the Construction Office.
This position conducts traffic studies, develops collision diagrams and identifies crash patterns, receives limited exposure to projects, makes contact with internal (KDOT entities)/external (consultants, local officials) customers, and completes other assignments within the Traffic Engineering Section as assigned.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
* Under full supervision of a professional engineer, this position conducts traffic studies which will include crash analysis and analysis of operational characteristics of existing roadway and traffic control conditions. These studies evaluate existing traffic control practices and operational features and recommend countermeasures to improve efficiency and safety following accepted engineering guidelines.
* Under full supervision of a professional engineer, this position completes crash analyses, develops collision diagrams, and offers recommendations to address crash patterns.
* Under full supervision of a professional engineer, this position will complete a variety of assignments. Some examples would be participating in railroad reviews, reviewing TEAP studies, gaining familiarity with documents and policies.
* Attend training opportunities to enhance knowledge and understanding of Traffic Engineering practices, principles, and guidelines.
