About The Position
Engineers for the Bureau of Air, Permitting Unit are seeking an Engineering Associate or Engineering Trainee. Applied professionals will review construction and operating permit applications, source information, air emission calculations, and other documents to ensure compliance with Clean Air Act federal regulations and Kansas Air Quality Regulations.
Position Summary & ResponsibilitiesTypical work week is 40 hours. The candidate will:
- Review and develop approvals and permits ranging from simple to complex Class I and Class II operating permits and construction permits.
- Develop permits ensuring adherence to all federal and state regulations and Bureau of Air policies and procedures.
- Contact applicants for clarification, request additional information, and verify that all regulations and information qualify for the requested permit class.
- Coordinate with senior engineer for quality control and supervisor or Section Chief for complex permit approval.
- Participate in internal concurrence process and internal quality control reviews.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering. High school or GED not required for the minimum qualifications.
- Licensing & Certification: Engineer in Training, Fundamentals of Engineering, or Intern Engineering Certificate recognized by the Kansas Board of Technical Professions.

Starting pay $35.25/hr engineering Trainee:
Starting pay $32.00/hr. - Preferred Qualifications: Four years of experience in engineering; proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access; proofreading, editing, attention to detail; knowledge of state and federal air quality regulations; ability to exercise judgment; ability to organize scientific data and draw logical conclusions; ability to establish and maintain working relationships.
Pay Range: $32.00–$35.26 per hour.
