Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Position Summary:

This position is a unit manager for the National Instant Criminal Background Check (NICS) unit within the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. The manager is responsible to provide professional service to customers in accordance with law and policy.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

* Interpret administrative rules and practices of the KBI and the state of Kansas.

* Interpret and implement state statutes, state regulations, federal public law, and federal code that pertain to the operation of the section.

* Meet statutory and regulatory obligations for the section's program and resolve alleged violations of statutes and regulations.

* Initiate and champion enhancements and improvements to laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

* Supervise the unit staff in attaining goals and objectives.

* Ensure effective and efficient operations by providing guidance, direction, and leadership.

* Obtain, analyze, and interpret pertinent statistics and management measures.

* Research, plan, and organize using program management techniques and performance indicators.

* Analyze critical processes and objectives and apply that analysis to improve procedures, workflows, and business practices.

* Prepare and give testimony to legislative committees regarding matters of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS)

* Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience in providing direction necessary to implement the objectives of an agency, program, or organizational unit. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) policies, procedures, and regulations is a preferred qualification.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements
