We are searching for a Senior Software Engineer I to focus on hardware and device integration for our point-of-sale platform. In this role, you will integrate and support a growing ecosystem of hardware devices and peripherals, from POS tablets and payment terminals to printers, scanners and customer-facing displays, working closely with engineers, vendors and partners to bring these devices to life in real-world restaurant environments.
Our platform runs globally across Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut using peer-to-peer replication, network service discovery, and embedded web servers to keep restaurants running even when the network doesn’t. Our codebase is 100% Kotlin, built on a modern Android stack including Jetpack Compose. As a Senior Software Engineer I, you will own device integrations end to end and help ensure our users’ and brands’ needs are met.
- Engineering Execution:
- Use AI dev tooling as part of your daily workflow to improve productivity across development, testing and documentation, while owning the quality and correctness of what you ship.
- Onboard and support new POS hardware devices, working through SDK integration and device-specific requirements.
- Integrate and support hardware SDKs for POS devices and payment terminals.
- Build and maintain an Android-based point-of-sale and operations platform that is a critical tool in tens of thousands of restaurants around the world.
- Problem Solving:
- Support integrations across additional in-store systems such as kitchen display systems (KDS), kiosks, or edge devices as needed.
- Contribute to improving how we support multiple device types and environments within the POS platform.
- Test and validate new hardware devices as part of broader evaluation efforts.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware-related issues, including device inconsistencies and vendor SDK challenges.
- Support a variety of peripherals, including printers, cash drawers, customer-facing displays, barcode scanners and other input devices.
- Communication and
Collaboration: - Contribute to a team culture where engineers are excited to show up to work.
- Communicate complex topics/problems in an articulate manner.
- Collaborate with teammates, vendors and partners to debug issues across different hardware configurations and regions.
- BA/BS or higher in Computer Science or a related STEM field.
- 3+ years hands-on experience building robust software, including production Android development (Kotlin/Java).
- Experience integrating and working with third-party SDKs.
- Ability to debug and troubleshoot issues across software and device interactions.
- Regular use of AI dev tooling in your daily workflow, with the discipline to verify its output and own the result.
- Willingness and ability to work across different parts of the development process, including integration, testing, and support.
- Experience working with hardware devices or peripherals (POS systems, payment terminals, printers, scanners).
- Exposure to Android device variations or OEM SDKs.
- Restaurant tech, retail POS, or any in-store operational system background.
- Experience testing applications across multiple device types.
- Curiosity about how software interacts with real-world hardware environments and in-store technology (POS, kiosks, KDS).
- Social proof of your passion for software development (blog, personal apps or websites, meetup presentations, community involvement).
Salary Range: 117,
