Operations Manager

The Operations Manager directs day-to-day operations, project execution, and financial performance for a growing mechanical contracting company in the Kansas City market. This role oversees HVAC, plumbing, hydronics, and mechanical systems projects from pre‑construction through closeout, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to quality standards. The ideal candidate combines deep mechanical construction experience with strong job cost accounting skills and the ability to scale operations during company growth.

• Lead operational functions including project management, field supervision, service operations, and support staff across HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems
• Oversee project execution from handoff through closeout, ensuring proper staffing, scheduling, material procurement, and subcontractor coordination
• Maintain ownership of project financial performance by reviewing job cost to completion reports, work‑in‑progress schedules, budget vs actual reports, and labor productivity metrics to identify cost overruns and implement corrective actions early
• Collaborate with accounting to improve job cost accuracy, coding discipline, forecasting, and reporting while supporting pricing strategies and change order management
• Lead, mentor, and develop project managers, superintendents, and field leadership while fostering accountability, teamwork, and safety culture

• 10+ years of experience in mechanical construction operations including HVAC, plumbing, and hydronics systems
• Proven leadership managing project managers, field teams, or multi‑project operations with responsibility for financial outcomes
• Strong understanding of job cost accounting, cost‑to‑complete forecasting, WIP reporting, and labor productivity tracking with ability to read financial reports and translate data into action
• Experience managing multiple concurrent projects while maintaining schedule, budget, and quality standards
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills with ability to resolve escalated field and client issues

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field
• Experience with construction accounting systems such as Foundation, Sage 100 Contractor, Jonas Premier, ViewPoint, or Procore
• Background in both new construction and service operations in mechanical trades
• Familiarity with union and non‑union labor environments in the Kansas City market
• Experience scaling operations, implementing KPIs, and refining estimating handoff procedures in a growing company

• Work performed in office and field environments with regular visits to active construction sites
• Ability to walk job sites, climb ladders, and navigate unfinished construction areas to monitor field performance
• Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds when reviewing plans, materials, or equipment on site
• Local travel to project sites throughout the Kansas City metro area required
• Standard business hours with flexibility for project needs, occasional early mornings or late meetings
