Job Summary:

The Manager of Safety leads the development, implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of the Cooperative's comprehensive safety program, apprenticeship program, and workplace safety compliance efforts. This position works closely with leadership and operations personnel to promote a proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.

The Manager of Safety develops and delivers safety training, conducts field safety observations, investigates incidents, and implements corrective actions to reduce risk exposure to employees, members, and the public. The position requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a demonstrated commitment to the cooperative’s core values and cooperative principles.

General & Safety Leadership

  • Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and respect in all interactions, fostering trust with employees, members, and the public while supporting the Cooperative’s safety culture and reputation.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to establish safety goals, priorities, initiatives, and accountability measures that strengthen the Cooperative's safety culture.
  • Lead the ongoing development, implementation, and coordination of all aspects of the Prairie Land Safety Program, including the Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program (RESAP) when applicable.
  • Develop, review, and recommend safety and regulatory compliance policies, procedures, and work practices in collaboration with appropriate leadership and subject matter experts.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills that motivate employees toward a shared commitment to safety.
  • Promote a work environment focused on safe work practices and minimal risk exposure for cooperative members, employees, and stakeholders.
  • Exercise and promote Stop Work Authority when unsafe conditions or practices are observed.
  • Maintain and update the Prairie Land Safety Manual and related safety policies.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintains current knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations, including OSHA, DOT, EPA, KCC, KDHE, and other applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of electric utility safety standards including OSHA regulations governing electric power generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and communicate relevant updates to cooperative leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and industry safety regulations.
