Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

This Industrial Hygienist position is located in Topeka and is within the Division of Safety. This position coordinates the Industrial Hygiene Program for the Kansas Department of Transportation in Districts Three, Five and Six. The Industrial Hygienist will conduct inspections on KDOT buildings and land for environmental hazards, including waste oil removal, salt contamination assessment, asbestos identification and mitigation. This position will also conduct ergonomic reviews on new and existing employees who sit for four or more hours at their workstation.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

* Proactively conducts comprehensive workplace inspections to identify and assess potential hazards across all operational areas.

* Collaborates with management to design, implement, and manage effective corrective action plans to eliminate or control identified risks.

* Utilizes technical expertise to develop innovative and sustainable solutions for challenging environmental, health, and safety issues.

* Accurately enters EHS data and generates clear, concise, and professional Health Inspection reports for internal record-keeping and regulatory compliance.

* Serves as a key EHS resource, effectively communicating complex EHS information to employees, leadership, and external regulatory bodies or stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

* Six years of direct experience in industrial hygiene, chemistry, or related field.

* Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.

* Valid Driver's License at time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

* A basic understanding of chemistry and biology.
