Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

This Engineering Technician Specialist position is located in Topeka, KS. The main purpose of this position is to manage the Plan Files Unit (vault) and is responsible for managing the workload of this unit.

NOTE:

The employee in this position must also maintain Certified Inspection certifications under the KDOT CIT Program as outlined in the Engineering Technician Progression Manual for the specific job path and any additional as outlined by the Senior Manager.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

* Manages and coordinates the printing and distributing project plans, preservation and management of historic record plans for the State Highway System, and technical assistance to internal and external users for plan retrieval. Must possess the technical knowledge of how to read plans and an understanding of the design process.

* Oversees daily operations of the plan file unit and organizes the unit's operating manual. Evaluates any necessary equipment needs for the work area in coordination with the Senior Manager for yearly budgets.

* Assists users in locating plan files and data through various indexes, descriptions, and references.

* Coordinates with the divisions as needed when they process requests.

* Contacts appropriate people within the agency to determine their requirements and coordinates the distribution of documents with the appropriate recommendations and approval signatures.

* Preservation and management of completed plans, appropriately archiving these plans for future reference. This includes the indexing and management of hard and electronic copies of plans, as-built plans, revised plans, and microfilm production and electronic storage.

* Manages or assists with editing and updating the electronic document under the guidance of the Road Support Engineer.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

* Five years of experience in engineering technical support.

* Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.

* Valid Driver's License at time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

* At least four years of road plan development) or seven years of technical experience including at least four years of road plan development

* Thorough knowledge of mathematics, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and road plan development procedures

* Thorough knowledge of CADD hardware and software.
