Position Summary & Responsibilities:
PATROL / ENFORCEMENT:
Monitors employees, visitors, and bystanders to the Kansas Capitol Complex, Cedar Crest, and other State properties, in Shawnee County, to ensure safety and security to the affected areas, employees, and citizens;
Conducts security screening checks by use of x-ray and metal detecting equipment;
Conducts periodic foot patrols, provides directions to visitors, responds to calls for service, assists disabled persons, and provides emergency medical services;
Utilizes Agency computer programs and software;
Properly completes forms when required, while ensuring the proper use of Agency radio communication system. When assigned, provides security during special assignments/events and provides security to State agencies when requested and approved by a supervisor;
Renders first aid and assistance to citizens when necessary; and provides protection and safety while monitoring security cameras when assigned to specific locations.
PUBLIC CONTACT:
Establishes and maintains professional contact with government officials, legislators, dignitaries, state employees, visitors, and all other citizens, to uphold the image and reputation of the Kansas Highway Patrol; and utilizes good communication skills when making contact with members of the community, in order to maintain control of each and every situation.
TRAINING /
CERTIFICATIONS:
Qualifies with duty weapons four times per year and develops skills and proficiency in the use of all Agency issued weapons and equipment;
Attends all required troop training and utilizes such training to its fullest extent;
Keeps up-to-date on all legal and policy changes;
Maintains certification in first aid principles and is skilled in their application;
Performs authorized maintenance on Agency equipment; and reports all equipment needs to their supervisor as those needs arise.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Performs other related assignments/duties, as prescribed by Troop Commander and/or direct supervisor. Officers may be required to perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to ensuring the agency is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and/or manmade disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and/or acts of terrorism; and assists other employees in the work unit in accomplishing assignments as necessary.
Officers must regularly interact with elected officials, state employees, dignitaries and the public, in order to obtain cooperation and maintain favorable attitudes by the public. Frequently make contact with violators and citizens, when taking enforcement action and/or when responding to calls for service.

Agency emergency equipment, X-Ray machine, magnatometer, radio equipment, handcuffs, first aid equipment, copy machine, printer, VOIP phone, Microsoft software, and other officer related equipment.
