Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This position works as part of the Programs Division at the Kansas Juvenile Corrections Complex (KJCC) and is responsible for establishing and delivering programming and case management support in the areas of cognitive-behavioral interventions for moderate and high-risk juvenile offenders.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

* Facility Mentoring:

Implement Mentoring4

Success at Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex, including:

* Recruit and support lead organizations in establishing mentors, including by providing information about Mentoring4

Success, making KDOC training available, providing/co-facilitating training as needed, either on behalf of KDOC as a lead organization, and/or for other lead organizations; addressing policy and system issues as needed with superiors; and serving as a liaison between the lead organizations and KDOC at the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex (KJCC).

* Work with Statewide Mentoring Coordinator and other local mentoring coordinators to develop roles of mentors that support case management, supervision, and risk reduction; ensure that mentoring plans are consistent with these roles and are tied to the case/supervision plans of residents.

* Mentor and coach staff on deploying mentors in this fashion, consistent with evidence-based practices, and in a way that maximizes the effectiveness of the mentors' work with residents. Participate in meetings of lead organization representatives as a liaison from KDOC to provide/receive updated information, engage in strategic planning; and address ongoing progress of Mentoring4

Success.

* Do quality assurance/fidelity checks on JJIS entries regarding mentoring and provide feedback. Serve as point of contact for KJCC staff in your office for addressing any issues related to Mentoring4

Success.

* Design, plan, implement and establish group mentoring opportunities vide escorts and supervision to mentors with residents. Assure mentors complete Snap Shots of each meeting with residents.

* Track data on current mentors, training needs for mentors, matched residents, applications, and requests from residents for mentors, and other mentoring activities outside of regular mentoring visits. Insert all mentor data into M4S statewide data base.

* Work with corrections counselor staff to identify appropriate cases for mentors; make effective/accurate referrals for mentors; help develop mentor plan for the case; work with the mentor effectively; give update as release approaches with recommendations for mentoring after release.

* Work with Human Resources to ensure mentor applicants pass required background checks prior to meeting with residents at the facility.

* Provide a forum for mentors and mentees to be supported in the mentoring relationship, including support groups and activities; methods for receiving feedback; methods for reporting and resolving concerns or problems; and otherwise identifying ways for ongoing support.

* Community Mentoring/ Partnerships:

Partner with probation, reentry, and M4S staff to establish a method for receiving mentor matches from KJCC.

* Reviewing and updating mentoring plans to fit community supervision/reentry; monitoring and supporting ongoing mentoring matches; and addressing adjustments to mentor matches or mentor plans along the way.

* Work with community partners to identify appropriate youth for mentors in the community and to make effective/accurate referrals for mentors in those cases. Mentor and coach community supervision staff on deploying mentors in this fashion, consistent with evidence-based practices, and in a way that maximizes the effectiveness of the mentors' work with offenders.

* Serve as point of contact for community partners for addressing any issues related to Mentoring4
