Maintenance Worker is part of a career development track including Levels I, II, and III, depending on qualifications. Maintenance Workers perform routine labor functions in the general maintenance and construction of public infrastructure and facilities and can be placed on any of three crews:
Right of Way, Pavement, or Stormwater.
All Maintenance Workers on all crews receive the following benefits:

- Personal Protective Equipment – City issued as needed
- Construction and repair of streets, public walkways, and roadways; stormwater drainage construction and maintenance; setup work zone traffic signs and other signs as required.
- Maintenance tasks: pick up debris and miscellaneous objects on streets and at work sites; mow grass with hand mower, tractor mower or riding mower along public thoroughfares.
- Equipment operation and maintenance: operate manual or small powered equipment for street maintenance, drainage, or right-of-way mowing; operate one‑ton and 2½‑ton truck; load and unload materials and equipment; perform routine preventative maintenance and other minor maintenance work on department vehicles and motorized equipment.
- Emergency operations: snow removal, ice control, and other emergency operations such as natural disasters; remove storm‑damaged trees, landscaping, or structures.
- Administration/project supervision: maintain records, reports, and other documents as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications for a Maintenance Worker I:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with air brakes and tanker endorsements (or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment) and acceptable driving record.
- Previous construction and/or maintenance experience a plus.
Hiring salary range for a Maintenance Worker I begins at $20.11 per hour (DOQ).
Minimum Qualifications for a Maintenance Worker II:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with air brakes and tanker endorsements.
- A minimum of 4 years work experience in construction and/or maintenance.
Hiring salary range for a Maintenance Worker II begins at $22.50 per hour (DOQ).
Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the responsibilities identified in this job posting will also be considered.
Work ScheduleThis position generally works eight‑hour days, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). The position is required to respond and participate in snow removal, ice control, and other emergency operations during off‑duty times. Emergency situations can occur anytime, day or night, seven days per week including holidays. Typical emergency shifts are twelve hours on and a minimum of eight hours off between shifts.
Some crews operate on an alternate work schedule during the summer months, which includes four, 10‑hour days per week.
