Job Title: Reading Sufficiency Tutoring
Reports To: Reading Specialist, Principal
Site: Shawnee Public Elementary Schools
QualificationsTraining or Experience
Required:
Previous work or volunteer experience with elementary‑age students preferred. Must have sufficient reading skills to assist students with individual tutoring. Computer experience preferred.
The purpose of the Reading Sufficiency Tutor is to assist Elementary students improve their reading skills under the general supervision of the Reading Specialist. Must follow generally standardized operating policies and procedures, and on occasion interpret policies and follow predetermined solutions established by higher‑level supervision.
Special Skills, Knowledge, Abilities- Communication Skills (oral, written, or business): Basic skills to exchange information, give/receive simple instructions, and respond to inquiries. Includes filling out forms.
- Data Recording/Record Keeping: Performs simple data recording/keeping operations requiring logging, filing or posting single entry items either manually or by computer.
- Mathematical
Skills:
Performs routine computations requiring knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using whole numbers, fractions, decimals and/or percentages. - Business Machines: Uses business machines that can be learned from simple manuals or verbal instructions, such as photocopiers, laminators, duplicators, CRT/computers (no software experience).
- Contact with Others: Public contact with students, parents, or district level staff. Some interpersonal interaction or communication is required outside with other staff and parents.
- Other Performance Measures: Successful performance requires good customer service/people skills to resolve problems and provide information as requested. Must follow safety guidelines and policies, including the District Exposure Control Plan for blood borne pathogens, to reduce accident or injury to self or students. Must follow dress standards, attendance/leave policies, and other work-habits concerns, and cooperate with other staff with a positive attitude toward staff, students, and the public.

Essential Job Functions- Assists with instruction and activities for students as assigned by teacher.
- Assists students with assignments.
- May assist student with personal care needs and offer minor first aid.
- Must maintain confidentiality of all students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision exercised: Does not supervise other employees.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Working ConditionsThis job requires frequent bending/stooping and occasional to frequent squatting/crouching, reaching above the shoulder, and pushing and pulling. Must be able to supervise students in the classroom and outside, communicate with students and parents, get around the classroom, and assist students with normal activities.
Terms of EmploymentApplicants to submit hours available/willing to tutor students. Certified Teachers paid $25 per hour; non‑certified tutors paid $15 per hour.
EvaluationPerformance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the district’s performance management policies.
