Associate Professor of Political Science – Oklahoma Baptist University
Position begins August 2026. Area of specialization is open. The successful candidate will be required to teach American National Government, Introduction to Political Science, and courses on congress, courts, and U.S. presidency. The candidate may also teach other courses in the catalog or develop new courses that align with their interests and background, with prior approval. Standard teaching load is 24 credit hours per academic year.
EssentialFunctions
- Teach introductory and upper‑level undergraduate Political Science courses.
- Serve as an advisor to Political Science majors and minors.
- Maintain accurate class records and submit reports and grades.
- Collaborate regularly with faculty members from other disciplines.
- Hold regular office hours for advising students.
- Be an active member in a local evangelical church.
- Maintain an active program of professional development.
- Serve on university committees and play an active role in shaping the work of the division.
- Assist in recruiting students to the Political Science program.
- Support and guide students in research and practica.
- Ability to teach multiple Political Science courses, including those covering the major branches of government.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and pedagogical skills.
- Capability to manage a college classroom to maximize student learning experience.
- Ability to adjust teaching methods to meet student needs.
- Effective at supporting students both individually and in small/large class environments.
- Strong professional relationships within the OBU community and the broader professional community.
- Proficiency with office technology and classroom presentation software.
- Required: Ph.D. in Political Science (advanced ABD considered).
- Preferred: Ph.D. in Political Science.
- Preferred: Experience teaching undergraduate courses in a Christian, liberal‑arts environment.
Must be a member of a local evangelical Christian church. (Evangelical refers to a segment within Christianity that maintains the authority of the Bible and the belief in salvation by faith in Jesus alone.)
