Job Summary
Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.
Responsibilities- Uses standards of medical-surgical nursing practice to increase the quality of care and quality of life for the patient, family, and significant other(s) through systematic evaluation of nursing practice effectiveness.
- Establishes effective relationships and serves as an advocate with the patient, family, and significant other(s) to facilitate development of a unique care plan for the patient’s needs.
- Uses the nursing process to develop and implement the plan of care, collect assessment data for each patient, determine appropriate nursing diagnoses, identify expected patient outcomes, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes.
- Develops assessment and management strategies based on consideration of physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure dimensions of human responses.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the impact of actual or potential illness and each patient’s status across all dimensions.
- Utilizes leadership skills by coordinating and collaborating with patient, family, significant other(s), communities, and inter‑professional team members to assess needs, set goals, plan interventions, provide care, and evaluate outcomes.
- Utilizes effective communication to participate in collaborative decision‑making that reflects cultural sensitivity, ethics, legality, holism, informed consent, compassion, and humanity within available resources.
- Educates patient, family, and significant other(s) about measures that promote, maintain, restore health, or promote comfort.
- Fosters a healthy work environment and serves as a mentor and role model for nursing colleagues, students, and others.
- Applies evidence‑based practice and scientific knowledge to medical‑surgical nursing practice, ensuring care is based on patient age‑specific and clinical needs.
- Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- MAY perform point‑of‑care testing according to policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school or educational equivalency for licensing.
- No experience required.
- Constant use of speech for oral communication.
- Constant standing and walking.
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing 0‑25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, reaching, and keyboard use/data entry.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for short and long distances, and color discrimination.
- Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
- Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds, and hear alarms or machinery.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing 25‑50 lbs.
- Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Occasional driving.
- Rare crawling and running.
- Registered Professional Nurse (RN) licensed in the state of work location.
- Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA).
- For Illinois: RN license from Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
- For Missouri: RN license from Missouri Division of Professional Registration or Compact State.
- For Oklahoma: RN license issued by Compact State or Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN).
- For Wisconsin: RN license issued by Compact State or Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
