Summary
Under general supervision, assists in the planning, coordination and supervision of a wide variety of indoor or outdoor recreation activities at a recreation center or other major recreational facility.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans, schedules, implements and evaluates recreational activities in a specific program area for a wide variety of age groups and special populations
- Assists in coordinating the use of fields and facilities, assesses community needs, partners with recreation providers, community organizations, vendors, schools, and regional resources
- Supervises activities in community parks, community centers, aquatic centers, or athletic facilities
- Assists in instructing, supervising and evaluating recreation staff and volunteers in the performance of assigned duties
- Participates in a variety of information collection activities, such as fact finding pertinent to disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, subordinate complaints and operating problems
- Recommends changes in staffing, program objectives, policies and procedures for maximum effectiveness and efficiency
- Assists in developing program content and methods used in providing community recreation offerings
- Responds to inquiries, complaints or requests for service from interested community groups and the public, assuring that programs and activities are meeting changing needs of the community
- Assists in planning and directing the maintenance and use of recreation facilities and athletic fields
- Resolves routine problems encountered of subordinate personnel performance of work assignments
- Performs other related duties as assigned

- Program administration including budgeting, purchasing and personnel management principles and practices
- Designing, developing and implementing recreation programs suited to the needs of the community
- Making recreation program decisions in accordance with the rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the Department
- Analyzing, interpreting and reporting research findings
- Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with City staff
Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements. There is need to stand, stoop, walk and lift heavy objects (over 50 pounds) during the course of the workday. Requires the use of a City vehicle on City business.
Education and ExperienceA High School Diploma or G.E.D., and one (1) year experience in organized recreational activities or program development; or any equivalent combination of experience and additional education or training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this work. Must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
An employee in this class is required to live within fifteen (15) miles of the City limits, and within the United States.
- ARIZONA STATE RETIREMENT SYSTEM (ASRS) - City employees are automatically enrolled in the Arizona State Retirement System. Employees contribute 12.22% (pre-tax) and the City contributes 12.22% of employee gross wages through automatic deduction. Should an employee terminate City employment, the ASRS funds may be withdrawn or remain until retirement. Contributions to the ASRS are in addition to FICA (Social Security taxes).
- LONG TERM DISABILITY (LTD) - Included through the Arizona State Retirement System. Employees contribute .19% and the City contributes .19% of employee gross wages. LTD contributions are in addition to FICA (Social Security taxes).
