Accounts Payable Specialist

Description

We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to a organization in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. This Long-term Contract position offers the opportunity to contribute to daily accounting activities within a fast-paced nonprofit setting while helping maintain accurate and timely financial operations. The role is ideal for someone who brings strong payables experience, careful attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to supporting vendors and internal teams.

Responsibilities:

- Manage a steady volume of incoming invoices and prepare payments with a high level of accuracy and timeliness.

- Examine invoices for correct account coding, required approvals, and complete backup before processing.

- Compare vendor statements against internal records and address discrepancies to ensure accounts remain current.

- Contribute to month-end accounting tasks by assisting with reconciliations and other close-related activities.

- Maintain organized and up-to-date vendor information while serving as a point of contact for payment-related questions.

- Help prepare documentation for audits and support compliance with financial controls and established accounting practices.

- Partner with finance and operational staff to identify opportunities for smoother and more effective accounts payable workflows.

- Process disbursements through methods such as ACH and check runs in accordance with payment schedules and internal procedures.

Requirements - At least 2 years of experience in accounts payable or a closely related accounting function.

- Working knowledge of invoice coding, payment processing, and vendor account reconciliation.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience using accounting or enterprise financial systems.

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments in a deadline-driven environment.

- High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate financial records.

- Clear communication skills for interacting professionally with vendors and internal stakeholders.

- Experience in a nonprofit, arts, or other mission-driven organization is preferred.
