Education Department Roles and Responsibilities
- Teach multiple field trips per week (May – June + September – October); including material preparation, welcoming volunteers/the school, and field trip clean up
- Arrive at least 45 minutes prior to field trip start time to check field trip binder for details, prepare materials, and greet volunteers
- Teach and assist in the implementation of educational programs (in collaboration with other staff/interns) including camp, workshops and adult programming as needed throughout the season
- Collaborate with education team members to develop a creative curriculum for use in programming throughout the Gardens
- Assist with other projects, including volunteer recruitment, book lamination, education supply organization, book inventory, etc.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Assist with the implementation of special events (such as Fairyfolk Festival, Happily Haunted Gardens, the Gala, etc.) as needed
- Work collaboratively with staff
- Check emails and Bookworm calendar (Monday - Friday) during on-season to confirm scheduling and other staff updates
- Treat all employees and visitors with respect and contribute to a positive work environment
- Be a positive advocate for the community and employee culture
- Experience teaching, either within a K-12 classroom environment or within the settings of an informal learning environment (botanic garden, museum, nature center, etc.)
- Skills in implementing learner-centered and diversified educational programming and related activities
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well and collaborate effectively with a range of audiences
- Knowledge of environmental education, interpretive strategies, and informal education
- Flexible and adaptable to changing demands and priorities
- Possess strong fundraising and relationship-building skills, strategic thinking abilities, and a passion for fostering engagement
- Excellent customer service skills and verbal and interpersonal communication skills, both in person, in writing, and over the phone, required.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and Google applications and have experience using database systems (Experience with Altru is a plus)
- Passion for plants, gardens, children’s literature, and the natural world
- Will be required to maintain CPR training if not currently licensed
- Will be required to maintain an Assistant Teaching Certificate per Wisconsin’s Division of Early Care and Education Group Child Care License (Including necessary hours of continuing education, Mandated Reporter training, CPR Certificate, and DCF's Abusive Head Trauma (AHT) Prevention Training for Child Care Providers)
a degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Environmental Education, Museum Education or related field (or equivalent experience)
Preferred Qualifications- Have 2 credits completed in early childhood education OR 1 non-credit Wisconsin Department of Children and Families approved course (would need copy of transcripts)
- Have at least 240 hours of experience as an assistant (or lead) teacher in a group child care center, as a licensed family child care provider, or in another approved early childhood setting.

Seasonal Part-time, Non-exempt - Pay Rate: $15 per hour

- Time Off:
Employees should notify their manager regarding any Monday - Friday on-season time off. More than 4 days off in a row must be approved by the employee’s manager.
On season (May – October): on average 5-25 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend availability. May, June, September and October consistently 10-20 hours per week;
Summer will
Off season (November - April): very limited (varies yearly) – substitute teacher for preschool
