Job Description: The Controls Designer supports the design, modification, and modernization of electrical control systems for custom machinery and equipment. Working closely with engineers, NC programmers, manufacturing teams, and customers, this role develops electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, and bills of materials that meet customer requirements and industry standards. The ideal candidate has a foundational understanding of electrical design principles, CAD software, and a collaborative approach to problem‑solving.
Key Responsibilities- Create and modify electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, and control system designs for new equipment and modernization projects.
- Develop electrical drawings and documentation using CAD and automated schematic tools.
- Review designs for functionality, manufacturability, performance, and cost effectiveness.
- Perform basic electrical calculations and support engineering change requests.
- Maintain bills of materials, design specifications, and project documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and procurement teams to resolve design and production issues.
- Assist with equipment testing, troubleshooting, startup activities, and customer support as needed.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1+ years of electrical design, controls design, drafting, or related experience.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical assembly drawings.
- Basic understanding of electrical design principles and electrical codes.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
Preferred
- Associate degree or technical degree in Electrical Design, Drafting, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field.
- Experience with CAD software, automated schematic tools, and/or Solid Works.
- Knowledge of UL standards and manufacturing or machine assembly processes.
- Ability to create and interpret electrical schematics and design documentation.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Team‑oriented, adaptable, and customer‑focused.
- Up to 25% travel, including occasional customer site visits to support installations, startups, troubleshooting, and technical assistance.
