Active AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by NBRC
AHA ACLS Certification
AHA PALS Certification
The Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive respiratory care across the continuum. This role delivers evidence-based respiratory therapy services, supports clinical decision-making, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure a safe patient environment and an exceptional patient experience.
Major ResponsibilitiesAssess patients using respiratory therapy processes, including pulmonary diagnostics, chest radiographs, hemodynamic values, laboratory data, blood gases, and electrolytes
Identify and address age-specific and population-specific patient needs
Operate specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care settings
Assist physicians with bedside and procedural support as applicable
Administer respiratory medications, treatments, and therapies per physician orders and patient-driven protocols
Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot respiratory equipment; identify need for service or repair
Educate patients and families on therapy purpose, techniques, self-care, goals, and disease management
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support clinical problem solving and education
Adapt to policies and procedures across multiple service areas under physician direction
Provide accurate, timely, and effective patient handoffs
Promote a culture of safety by identifying risks, reporting safety events, and supporting corrective actions
Precept, train, and educate new team members, orientees, and students
Deliver age-appropriate care across the lifespan using principles of growth and development
Required:
Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the state of practice
Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by NBRC within 12 months
OR active Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential if received prior to January 1, 2023
AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
Additional site-specific certifications may be required per Education/Certification Addendum.
EducationGraduate of an accredited respiratory care program
Minimum of an Associate Degree in Respiratory Care
No prior experience required
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
Clinical decision-making for patient care and equipment use
Proficiency with electronic medical records and computer applications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to build professional relationships with patients, families, physicians, and team members
Strong time-management skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Operate all equipment required to perform job duties
Lift up to 50 lbs (knee-to-waist and floor-to-waist)
Lift and carry up to 40 lbs at waist height
Lift up to 20 lbs overhead
Push/pull up to 30 lbs of force over long distances
Perform stand-pivot transfers and sliding transfers with assistance
Utilize proper body mechanics at all times
