What does a day in the life of a WEDM Operator look like?
Position Summary
:
Support the Stamping department making new die components. Perform modifications; identify concerns and recommend countermeasures. Perform corrective, scheduled, and preventative maintenance on WEDM equipment.
- Setup, calibrate, and run Wire EDM machines - currently utilizing 3 EDM Machines, a hole popping machine, and Grinder;
- Analyze die components on the ideal way to setup and run in the Wire EDM machine;
- Understand the G code programs and each sequence of operation;
- Meet repair and preventative maintenance (PM) schedule times to maintain Wire EDM machines, some of which can require constant observation;
- Troubleshoot and correct quality issues on incoming and outgoing die components;
- Maintain and continuously improve quality on all die components;
- Communicate with all levels of management on die issues and die repairs as necessary to maintain production schedules;
- Read and study blueprints of specifications to plan sequences of operations for Wire EDM machines and beyond. This includes understanding of Stamping dies that require land and taper written into the programs;
- Operate 3-axis Prototrak Mill as time permits.
- Heat treat A2, D2 blocks as time permits.
- Promote safety continuously; solve problems quickly to improve safety, quality, and productivity of stamping dies;
- Position requires the ability to work overtime in excess of 40 hours per week;
- Assist and maintain a consist level of inventory within the tool shop;
- Creation of externally sought out parts, such as shims, according to customer requirements;
- All other duties as assigned.
Experience/Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of experience running Wire EDM machines;
- Applicants must have the ability to learn quickly and must be willing to train and work overtime as necessary;
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs frequently;
- Have the ability to work 10+ hour shift standing, bending and reaching throughout the duration of your shift;
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment;
- Able to feel, grasp and touch parts to perform quality checks frequently;
- Have attention to detail and depth perception to perform quality checks frequently;
- Consistently works in a noisy and hot environment;
- Frequently move equipment and parts requiring 50lbs of force.
