Overview
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level IV Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center in Sheboygan, WI, requiring Epic experience and a minimum of 2 years of strong ED experience.
Requirements- Active WI or Compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- ENPC, TNCC, and de-escalation training (MOAB or CPI) are preferred
- Minimum 2 years of recent, strong Emergency Department experience required
- Proficiency in Epic EMR is required; first-time travelers must have Epic experience to be considered
- Core clinical skills required include stroke and trauma care, pediatric emergency care, chest tube management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and central line management
- At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN collected within the last year is required for consideration
- Work setting is a 101-bed acute care hospital with a 12-bed Emergency Department, including 4 hallway treatment areas and 3 result-pending rooms
- Level IV Trauma Center and designated Primary Stroke Center
- Average ED patient volume is 64–80 patients per day, rising to 80–100 during peak periods
- Patient population is diverse: approximately 50% adult general medical, 25% geriatric, 15% pediatric, and 10% behavioral health (adult and peds)
- Common case types include trauma (falls, MVAs, industrial accidents, GSWs, stabbings), cardiac (STEMI, CHF), neuro (strokes), respiratory (RSV, COPD, respiratory failure), and psychiatric (SI)
- Patient ratio is 1:4, with the ability to flex to 1:5 during high census
- 12-hour night shifts (1845–0715), 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation is every other weekend
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Charting is done in Epic (required); additional equipment includes Alaris pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and bedside/nursing station telemetry monitoring (no tele tech)
- Floating is rare and limited to assisting other units with difficult IV access; travelers will never be assigned a patient load outside of the ED
- Travelers will not be assigned to ED triage unless trained and trust is established with the department
- ED support staff includes ED techs (coverage varies by shift and includes US-guided IVs, EKGs, and transfer paperwork), phlebotomy for difficult sticks only, RT 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, house supervisor 24/7, a surge call team, and a trained forensic response team
- Orientation includes login setup, online modules, hospital tour, and Epic training on day one, followed by unit orientation on days two and three based on individual comfort level
- Schedules are released four weeks at a time with two weeks' advance notice; travelers are placed where coverage is most needed
- Any color professional scrubs are acceptable
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply if they have Epic experience
- Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months before being eligible
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate; no radius restrictions apply
