Sheffield City Council’s Capital Delivery Service is looking for Civil and Structural Engineers to join its in‑house multidisciplinary design team.
This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of public‑sector capital projects, taking responsibility for civil and/or structural engineering design and inspection work, and contributing to delivery from early feasibility through to construction.
You will work alongside architects, project managers and cost consultants within a professional, consultancy‐style environment, with the chance to develop your technical expertise, progress towards Chartership, and help shape projects that make a real difference to the city.
What you’ll be doing- Working within our in‑house Civil and Structural Engineering team to undertake design and inspection work with limited supervision
- Contributing to multidisciplinary design teams on projects across the Council’s capital programme
- Undertaking site inspections, surveys and technical reporting relevant to your discipline
- Supporting and mentoring graduate engineers as part of the wider team
- You will be a degree‑qualified Civil or Structural Engineer, typically working towards Chartership with a relevant professional institution (e.g. ICE or IStruct
E), with experience delivering design work and site‑based activities within a professional environment appropriate to your discipline. - Be part of Sheffield City Council’s in‑house, multidisciplinary Capital Delivery Service, operating as a professionally led, fee‑earning consultancy within the local authority
- Work on a diverse £200m‑per‑year capital programme, delivering projects from feasibility through to construction across varied and technically interesting public‑sector projects (including schools, housing, highways, flood alleviation, public buildings and parks)
- Collaborate daily with engineers, architects, project managers and cost consultants under one service
