We are seeking an experienced Control Panel / Prototype Electrical Technician or Engineer to join our growing team. This is a hands-on role focused on the assembly and manufacture of bespoke control systems and instrument racks within a fast-paced, varied environment. You will be part of a dynamic engineering team developing custom hardware and software solutions for data acquisition and automated control across a wide range of industries.
We are also open to more senior applicants with Workshop Supervisor or Team Lead experience, provided the role remains hands-on.
- Electro‑mechanical assembly and installation, building sub‑assemblies and complete systems from drawings and build procedures. Work will take place in-house at the Sheffield workshop and on customer sites across the UK.
- Panel wiring, layout, and assembly
- Assembly of 19" rack systems
- Wiring harnesses and looms
- Wiring of control units and interface boxes
- Mechanical assembly (e.g., extruded aluminium frame builds)
- Functional testing, continuity checks, and electrical testing with pragmatic fault‑finding
- On‑site installations including single and three‑phase electrical work, cable routing/dressing, and working at height
- Supporting smooth workshop operations, including stock level reporting
- Completing test documentation, RAMS, site reports, and recording design deviations or modifications
You will be dynamic, pragmatic, and deadline‑driven, with strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to interpret schematics and engineering drawings. Due to the bespoke nature of our work, you must be confident making informed decisions on build approach and layout.
Apprentice‑trained candidates with City & Guilds or equivalent qualifications are preferred. Experience in prototype builds, panel wiring, mechanical fitting, and on‑site installations is essential, including planning and overseeing site works.
Technical Requirements- We only use digital drawing packages, so you must be PC literate and work with digital schematics such as EPlan eView or similar

- IEE Wiring Regulations (18th Edition)
- Ability to interpret schematics and update/redline drawings
- Confident in component layout, panel fabrication, drilling/cutting/punching for glands, connectors, indicators, etc.
- Wiring experience across 3‑phase, LV, ELV control, PLC wiring, and communication bus systems
- On‑site installation experience, ideally including pre‑planning and QC
- Strong IT skills (email, MS Teams, electronic site documentation); familiarity with EPlan eView desirable
- Practical electrical debugging with a pragmatic approach
- Experience with mainstream PLCs (Siemens, Beckhoff) or NI instrumentation
