Trackwork Limited is Network Rail and NSAR approved for railway safety training, offering a professional and safety-focused working environment.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Plant Fitter role based in the Greater Sheffield Area. The Plant Fitter will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing rail plant and equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems. Daily tasks include diagnosing faults, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, and ensuring all machinery operates safely and efficiently for rail infrastructure projects. The role involves completing service records, adhering to safety and quality procedures, and working closely with site teams to minimize equipment downtime.

The Plant Fitter may be required to work flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends, in line with project needs.

Qualifications
  • Strong mechanical fitting skills, including fault finding, maintenance, and repair of heavy plant or rail equipment.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and experience working with mobile and static plant machinery.
  • Understanding of electrical systems relevant to plant equipment and ability to follow technical manuals and schematics.
  • Awareness of rail industry safety standards and procedures; commitment to safe working practices on live rail and construction sites.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment effectively and safely.
  • Good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, plant maintenance, or a related discipline.
  • Full driving license and willingness to travel to sites within the Greater Sheffield Area and surrounding regions.
  • Previous experience in rail infrastructure, construction plant, or heavy equipment maintenance is highly beneficial.
