Engineer, Building Maintenance

We re looking for a Fabric Engineer to join our Sheffield Schools team based in Sheffield.

Location: Sheffield

Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

The Fabric Engineer is responsible for delivering high-quality building fabric maintenance services across allocated sites, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient service delivery. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to the physical environment of our schools, supporting a safe and welcoming space for students and staff.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Fabric Engineer, you ll be working within the Sheffield Schools team, supporting them in maintaining the physical condition, integrity, and appearance of buildings. Your day to day will include:

• Carrying out planned and reactive fabric maintenance tasks including basic carpentry, minor building repairs, decoration, and plumbing repairs
• Completing planned preventative maintenance tasks in line with the maintenance schedule and accurately recording all works
• Responding to breakdowns and service requests promptly, diagnosing and rectifying faults within competency limits
• Conducting routine inspections of building fabric and ensuring compliance documentation is maintained
• Acting as a visible and approachable on-site presence, liaising with site users to resolve issues effectively

This role of Fabric Engineer is great for you if:

• You have proven experience in a similar Fabric Engineer, Handyperson, or Maintenance role
• You possess good understanding of building fabric maintenance and basic multi-trade skills in carpentry, plumbing, and decorating
• You have knowledge of health and safety and safe systems of work
• You re able to work independently, manage your workload effectively, and take a proactive approach to problem-solving
• You have strong communication and customer service skills with a friendly and professional manner
