Teacher Assistant/ Paraprofessional, Special Education Assistant
Part time position at Early Childhood Center, Monday-Thursday from 12:40 pm to 4:00 pm
Summary: The ASD paraprofessional supports child with autism spectrum disorder by providing individual assistant and additionally supporting special education teachers and staff
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Assisting students in achieving academic success
- Working with students who may be aggressive or disruptive in class
- Behavior support includes physical management and monitoring (training provided upon hire)
- Under teacher direction, provide instructional and social-emotional/behavior accommodations and interventions
- Assist students with health, medical or physical needs (eg transferring, diapering, bath rooming, etc)
- Assist teams in the implementation of positive behavior support plans or emergency intervention plans
- Assist teams with data collection
- Respect individual student strengths and needs and maintain confidentiality at all times
- Actively support district, school, and classroom norms and philosophy
- Professionally engage with parents, staff, and administrators in supporting student success
- Autism Internet Modules, consultation with the MVED Autism Consultant, and other resources as appropriate

Education and/orExperience:
Required:
- At least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or
- An associate's degree (or higher); or
- Demonstrate, through passage of an approved formal state academic assessment in the following areas:
Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate - Experience in the school setting, preferred
- Ability to read and understand instructional materials present to students
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with all students, staff and school community
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district and BOE policies
- Additional training and/or education
Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret communication including emails, letters, spreadsheet and forms Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the community, regulatory agencies or staff members
MathematicalSkills:
Ability to calculate basic mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; determine percentages and decimals; spatial aptitude to inspect length and weight of objects
Reasoning Ability:Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
