Aerospace Tooling Designer

Smith Brothers Tool Company is hiring an Aerospace Tooling Designer to create layouts, 3D models, and detailed drawings for jigs, fixtures, gauges, assembly tools, and other custom tooling used in aerospace and precision manufacturing.

This is an on-site role for someone who knows CATIA V5, understands how tooling is built, and can turn customer requirements into accurate, practical, and manufacturable designs.

What you'll do Create tooling concepts, layouts, 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using CATIA V5.Design jigs, fixtures, gauges, checking tools, assembly tools, and related manufacturing equipment.

Apply customer-specific aerospace and automotive design standards.

Use solid modeling, advanced curve and surface modeling, drafting, and simulation or interference-checking techniques.

Apply GD&T, Cartesian coordinate systems, tolerances, and sound mechanical-design principles.

Review customer specifications, models, drawings, and project requirements.

Work closely with manufacturing, quality, project management, and the shop floor to ensure designs can be built, inspected, and used effectively.

Participate in design reviews, make revisions, and maintain accurate project documentation.

Help troubleshoot tooling issues during fabrication, assembly, and validation.

What we're looking for Hands-on CATIA V5 experience, including solid modeling, assemblies, drafting, and curve or surface design.

Experience designing tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, or related manufacturing equipment.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, customer specifications, and GD&T.Strong understanding of mechanical design and how tooling is manufactured and assembled.

Good mechanical aptitude, organization, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.

High school diploma or GED required.

Preferred qualifications

Experience with aerospace, defense, automotive tooling, tool and die, or precision manufacturing.

Technical certificate, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or related college coursework.

Experience with aerospace or automotive customer design standards.

Experience with design simulation, motion studies, or interference analysis.

Microsoft Office experience.

Schedule and location

Full-time, hourly position based on-site in Shelby Township, Michigan.

Typical start time is 6:00 a.m. Hours may vary based on project requirements.

No regular travel required.

Occasional work on the manufacturing floor around machinery and production noise may be required.

Compensation and benefits $25-$30/hr based on experience.
