Academic Success Advisor (TUG Focus)

This role provides proactive mentorship and academic coaching toensure the holistic success of students. While this position servesas the primary advisor of record for an assigned group of traditional undergraduate students, it functions as a collaborativemember of the broader division. As such, the individual will maintain a diverse advising portfolio that includes GW Onlinestudents and Student-Athletes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Undergraduate Academic Services
  • Primary Caseload: Advises program requirements, course selection, and registration procedures to both prospective and current student populations.
  • Academic

    Coaching:

    Provides academic coaching to assist with identifying, developing, and implementing learning strategies and study skills specific to course requirements.
  • Proactive Intervention: Contacts and intervenes with students who have been referred as having excessive absences andaccumulating low grades, and any student deemed academicallyhigh-risk.
  • Success Planning: Assists students on academic warningwith academic success plans. Monitors and contacts students whohave not registered each semester.
Integrated University Advising (Online &Student-Athletes)
  • Cross-Modal Advising: Serve as a designated academicadvisor for GW Online distance learners and Student-Athletes.
  • Retention & Success: Collaborate and coordinate with colleagues in a team approach to ensure student success. Helps withoutreach for students on caseload that have unpaid financialbalances.
  • Resource Navigation: Refers students to appropriateacademic staff and support resources and collaborates with othersto monitor and accelerate the academic progress of the studentsreferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Graduate Assistants;
    Interns/Student Employees (asneeded).
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in education or a related field.
  • Preferred: 1-2 years of related work or training.

    Experience as a student peer mentor or advising assistant is aplus.
  • Advising Versatility: Previous experience or a strongdesire to work with diverse student populations, including onlinestudents and traditional campus students.

  • Technical Proficiency: Mastery of Microsoft Office Suiteand campus-wide databases (e.g., Banner, Cornerstone).

  • Relational Excellence: Strong "customer-friendly"skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to handle confidential information (FERPA) with professional integrity.
