The TRIO SSS Assistant Director supports the Project Director and serves as an advisor to provide individualized academic, career, and personal guidance for identified TRIO SSS participants. This is a multi-year grant funded position by the federal government. This position requires day, evening, and occasional weekend hours and travel.

Assistant Directing and Advising
  • Provide academic, personal, financial, and career guidance to TRIO SSS students.
  • Explain policies, procedures, and program requirements of chosen program of study.
  • Advise and counsel students in planning and selecting courses within the program of study for future semesters toward graduation.
  • Assist with registration; verify student prerequisites and requirements.
  • Act as a liaison for tutoring, academic concerns, and personal counseling needs.
  • Maintain confidential records and data on advising and counseling activities and student information.
  • Consult with students regarding academic problems or concerns and assist students in obtaining support to meet specific needs.
  • Understand objectives and regulations of the TRIO Student Support Services federal grant to assist in data-keeping for the APR , compliance regarding accepted participants, management of required/permissible services, and programming guidance that prioritizes meeting objectives.
  • Supervise TRIO SSS Advisor and PT Assistant.
  • Coordinate, promote, and facilitate workshops, seminars, and related videos for student development that include financial literacy, career development, time management, and student success, in conjunction with Marketing.
  • Assist in coordinating all programming including the annual TRIO SSS graduation activity, summer enrichment programming, college transfer tours, and events.
  • Assist in publicizing and promoting services, resources, and activities of the TRIO SSS program and the College (i.e., newsletter, TRIO SSS Blackboard page, email list-serve, workshops, etc.).
  • Collaborate with SGA and other organizations on campus to promote and provide student activities.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining information for students via social media, TRIO SSS Webpage, Blackboard group, newsletter, emails, and text messages.
  • Participate in professional conferences and individual professional development activities to stay current on national trends and processes regarding counseling and academic advising.
  • Function as a team member of the TRIO professional staff and implement processes necessary to accomplish the goals and philosophy of the Department of Education, college, division, and grant initiatives.
  • Assist with graduation and other College-related duties.
  • Actively participate in Student Affairs planning, evaluation, and program review.
  • Treat students and colleagues respectfully, speak to others courteously, and behave in such a way that creates a workplace environment that is marked by trustworthiness, honest but polite communication, and interpersonal interaction that are both personally cordial and professionally appropriate.
  • Serve on committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and other related tasks associated with the work described herein.
Salary Range

Salary Range Based on experience. Starting salary range $47,435 to $71,153.

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution. Preference in Education, Social Work, Student Affairs or related field.

  • Ability to work or meet in the evenings and/or on weekends, with advanced notice.
  • Ability to provide leadership in anticipating and responding to change.
