Aerospace Coatings Manufacturing Process Engineer
Shelby, NC
We are looking for a passionate manufacturing process engineer to advance the future of aviation coatings at PPG’s Aerospace business. This onsite role at our Shelby, North Carolina site requires developing and troubleshooting plant process systems, implementing process strategies, managing resources, optimizing critical variables, and maintaining documentation with a focus on continuous improvement.
Responsibilities- Be actively engaged in safety, participate in site safety programs, and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Provide engineering support to improve manufacturing unit operations, including process flows, capability, yields, cost of goods sold, reliability, waste minimization, and EH&S improvements through data-based decisions.
- Support manufacturing teams with observation and analysis of runs, root‑cause investigation, and development of sustainable corrective actions.
- Maintain and improve product quality through continuous process improvement and operating procedure enhancements.
- Drive technical improvements in collaboration with on‑site teams (operations, maintenance, engineering, EH&S, quality).
- Investigate and troubleshoot customer concerns and process deviations for development and current products.
- Act as a technical liaison between new product development initiatives and manufacturing integration.
- Conduct new process evaluation/optimization projects, process capability studies, HAZOP studies, process safety reviews, and process DOEs.
- Provide backup to the applicable operations unit manager and/or production supervisor regarding reporting, decision‑making, and directing work during absences.
- Lead improvement teams, lean‑six sigma events, and production analysis to deliver root‑cause and corrective actions for performance deviations.
- Ensure conformance with PPG and SBU Quality and EH&S policies, completing MOCs and RCCAs for EHS and Quality CARs as expected.

- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent.
- 3+ years of process manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in a chemical plant or discrete manufacturing operation.
- Lean manufacturing and/or six sigma experience preferred.
