Abraxas Ohio, located in Shelby, is a residential treatment facility for at-risk adolescent males. We provide specialized services for behavioral, mental health and drug and alcohol treatment.

Salary: $65,000 annually

Position

Summary

This is a professional position managing the medical department to promote good health, treat minor medical problems, respond to medical emergencies and ensure the medical needs of the residents are addressed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Major Activity: Provides routine medical services to residents.

  • Under the supervision of and in collaboration with the physician, assists with the medical treatment of residents.
  • Dispenses prescription and non-prescription medication as needed.
  • Provides medical information, education and health training to residents.
  • Develops and monitors the implementation of medical treatment plans for residents’ health problems that require medical management.
  • This includes the medical aspects of substance abuse and psychiatric issues.
  • Provides an Initial Health Screen to all new residents.
  • Available/on call 24/7, either on-site or via phone or virtual technology.
  • Requisition s and controls all medications and medical supplies.
  • Makes appropriate referrals to medical agencies/practitioners.

Major Activity: Maintains necessary documentation.

  • Documents medical services and maintains medical files for all residents.
  • Maintains record of medications dispensed.
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures as they relate to the medical department.

Major Activity: Maintains regulatory compliance.

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state and local licensing requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with program policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with exposure control plans.
  • Evaluates the quality of the medical care that residents have received.
  • Initiates and/or prepares subordinate performance evaluations.
  • Provides subordinates with corrective action as necessary.
  • Provides subordinates with supervisory conferences as needed.
  • Develops a staff schedule for the medical department.
Required

Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensed Registered Nurse, licensed in Ohio, with a minimum of three years experience in nursing supervision.
  • Familiarity with adolescent health assessment and drug abuse pharmacology.
  • Emergency medical aid experience.
  • Experience in alcohol and other drug treatment and/or psychiatric treatment experience is preferred.
Other Qualifications
  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Criminal clearances (specific State & child clearances and, if necessary, FBI).
  • Non-communicable diseases physical exam.
  • Valid driver's license from employee’s state of residence.
