Job Description Summary
This position is accountable for coordinating the daily flow of supplies, implants, and equipment for the Shelby OR Department using multiple inventory tools—including automated supply units, handheld electronic devices, and an ERP system. The coordinator ensures procurement requests meet clinical and financial requirements, manages inventory for owned, consigned, and same‑day requested items, and maintains accurate financials and product integrity to support surgical operations and patient care.
Responsibilities- Maintain a basic understanding of all systems supporting the supply chain for surgery operations, including owned, consigned, and loaner supplies, implants, and equipment.
- Utilize forecasting tools and an ERP system for order replenishment and inventory management.
- Resolve supply chain issues such as vendor or manufacturer backorders, substitutions, recalls, or logistical failures while communicating updates to the impacted team.
- Handle customer complaints, concerns, or service failures and work towards prevention of operational service failures.
- Ensure product/package integrity and monitor expiration dates in the assigned area.
- Manage timing and receipt of new and replacement products to avoid interruption of supply availability.
- Assist clinicians with product and equipment trials and with product backorders or recalls.
- Maintain inventory control processes, including setting par levels, placing orders via handheld technology, receiving items, and participating in annual inventories.
- Coordinate emergent and planned inventory changes in a timely manner.
- Provide consistent customer service to support the surgical department’s patient care objectives.
- Support the implementation of new technology and coordinate logistics for approved products.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow cleaning schedules.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 2 to 3 years of related healthcare experience.
- Basic math and computer skills.
- Understanding of financial impacts related to supply chain functions.
- Ability to work in a moderately paced, ever‑changing environment.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- 3 or more years of related experience, preferably in surgical supply or related area.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Strong teamwork abilities and flexibility.
- Ability to prioritize, follow through, and work under pressure.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software (e.g., Workday, Microsoft Teams, EPIC).
- Knowledge of information security and privacy practices.
