Substitute Teacher

SUMMARY

Carries out all duties and responsibilities necessary to assist students and school staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Other duties may be assigned
  • Complies with Shelbyville Central Schools mission statement and fundamental objectives
  • Carefully adheres to the teacher’s lesson plans and executes activities as outlined in lesson plans
  • Communicates in writing an outline of completed activities of the day as well as any additional information that will assist the teacher
  • Becomes familiar with and complies with building level procedures and expectations
  • Follows the building and/or teacher’s classroom management plan
  • Understands and follows crisis procedures
  • Complies with the corporation staff dress and grooming codes
  • Understands and complies with the internet agreement
  • Understands and complies with the corporation’s sexual harassment policy
  • Maintains the strictest of confidentiality on information and issues pertaining to students and school related issues learned as a result of substitute teaching
  • Communicates immediately with office in an emergency
  • Understands the importance of being dependable in terms of arrival/dismissal times, schedules, and assigned duties
  • Displays strong character, responsibility, organizational skills, work ethic and flexibility
  • Communicates professionally
  • Maintains satisfactory attendance
  • Complies with Corporation Bylaws, Policies and Employee Handbook
  • Models Corporation Mission Statement and Fundamental Objectives
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises recess, lunchroom, hallways, restroom, arrival and/or dismissal when assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum of a High School Diploma if over 21 years of age. If under 21 years of age, post-secondary education or applicable training is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents and/or staff.

MATHATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform basic arithmetical calculation.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER

SKILLS and ABILITIES

Ability to operate photocopying machines, laminators, and computers. Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students, understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and policies.
