Overview
Seeking an engineer to help support our growing Aerospace manufacturing facility as technical weld expert. Ideal candidate will partner with operations, process engineering and others to improve welding and related manufacturing processes and will support daily production needs.
What You’ll Be DoingDevelop welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment or problems involving fabrication of ferrous and non-ferrous metals with a focus on Titanium 6-4. Utilize knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles. Conduct and assist with research and development in this field. Develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures, improves existing or new welding equipment.
Develop new or advanced welding methods, techniques, and procedures, to substantiate created hypothesis. Prepare technical reports as result of research and development and preventive maintenance investigations. Establish welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre and post-heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints, and complex post heating requirements.
- Study production floor weld issues. Conduct root cause analysis and implements effective countermeasures as appropriate. Create quality and repair procedures for nonconforming product as required.
- Responsible for training other technical personnel in use of equipment and supports daily production needs. Directs and coordinates technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers’ compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing welds for conformance with national code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification.
- Evaluates new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems and production processes.
- May perform experimental welding to evaluate equipment, techniques, and materials.
Laser welding of Titanium (BAC 5975, BAC 5686). Understanding of specific inspection methods. Penetrate (BAC 5423), Ultrasonic (BAC 5439). Radiography (BAC 7041) and trouble shoot process concerns.
ScheduleThis position is onsite role; overtime‑exempt and will primarily work eight or more hours per day, five days per week based on business needs.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Welding, Applied Optics)
- One year experience in weld engineering or related technical position
- CWI or ability to obtain CWI within one year
- Strong ability to work in a team environment and handle multiple priorities
- Computer skills – MS Office with strong Excel spreadsheet. Knowledge of MS Project, Outlook, PowerPoint, AutoCAD and ability to learn new software options.
- US Person as defined by ITAR / EAR
- Experience with laser welding process, including Titanium and Aluminum experience
- SCWI Certification
- Technical aerospace experience
