Position:Environmental Manager
The Environmental Manager will be responsible for overall environmental compliance and sustainability for the Wieland Recycling facilities in the US (current locations are Shelbyville, KY and Granite City, IL). This role will ensure ongoing compliance to local, state, and federal requirements while continuously improving the environmental management systems. This role is also responsible for coordinating decarbonization, energy use, waste reduction, and sustainability initiatives that are core Wieland strategic imperatives.
Location:
Shelbyville, KY (hybrid). Travel between the sites is required, ranging from 25‑50% depending on the candidate's location.
- Develop and manage environmental permits, projects, plans, and programs from concept to completion. Must provide advice and assessment of future manufacturing projects to ensure environmental compliance is maintained and improved.
- Act as the main point of contact for environmental regulatory agencies and internal legal counsel on environmental matters.
- Conduct field investigations and prepare reports for problems, issues and resolutions related to environmental compliance, including Title V, SARA, SPCC, storm water systems, RCRA, and DOT.
- Establish and enforce performance levels and expectations in environmental plans to ensure overall compliance and confirm conformance to environmental plans and specifications.
- Support and encourage employee involvement in continuous improvement activities including Safety Excellence, Lean Manufacturing, TPM and Maintenance Excellence activities.
- Maintain knowledge of government affairs as related to environmental regulations through outside sources.
- Prepare and submit permit or regulatory required reports, plans, permit applications, and permit modifications related to CAA Title V, SARA, RCRA, TSCA and CWA NPDES.
- Develop and implement short‑term and long‑range strategies for pollutant reduction, waste reduction, decarbonization and energy consumption reduction.
- Lead ISO 14001 & 9001 program activities within the recycling facilities.
- Degree in Engineering (or reasonable equivalent) with a minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental engineering, project management, or sustainability initiatives at a heavy manufacturing facility.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing or being responsible for environmental regulatory compliance programs or projects in an industrial setting.
- Proficient in interpreting and implementing local, state, and federal air permitting requirements, including knowledge of air emission calculations and emissions control technologies.
- Strong mechanical skills.
