The Advanced Practice Clinician (NP/PA) is physician-aligned and manages a distinct patient population. The APC provides outpatient and inpatient care, ensures adherence to clinical pathways, and maintains a safe, quality care environment. The role requires advanced medical and nursing knowledge, clinical competence, sound judgement, effective communication, timely documentation, and commitment to professional development.

• Assess health status; perform complete history and physical exams for acute and complex chronically ill patients.
• Order and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques and diagnostic procedures.
• Serve as first responder for patient status changes, orders, and procedural or resuscitative interventions.
• Assess risks related to medication side effects, immobility, nutrition, fluid and electrolyte balance, immunocompetence, invasive interventions, and diagnostics.
• Coordinate daily clinic schedule with attending physician teams, present patient reports, collaborate on plans of care, and follow assigned patient populations.
• Manage diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision.
• Formulate and document individualized, evidence‑based plans of care; implement and modify plans as needed.
• Prescribe diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions (pharmacologic, non‑pharmacologic, surgical) to achieve expected outcomes.
• Perform advanced procedures within privileges: minor suturing, complex wound management, line and tube placements and removals.
• Maintain ongoing communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary health care teams.
• Communicate with patients, families, and staff to promote understanding and engagement.
• Document key components of patients’ progress via daily progress notes, transfers, discharge summaries, and clinic notes (h&p, daily progress notes, plan of care, problem lists, procedure notes, acute event notes, discharge summaries, death summary) according to unit or service standards.
• Demonstrate professional practice behaviors, including precepting, mentoring, and educating students, nursing staff, and novice APCs.
• Seek opportunities for research and analysis of evidence‑based practice; participate in Grand Rounds, council meetings, faculty and unit meetings, and M&M presentations.
• Maintain CEUs and membership in professional organizations.

• Certifications:
  
  Licensed Nurse Practitioner (Tennessee), Physician’s Assistant Certified (Tennessee).
• Work Experience:
  
  1 year in relevant clinical practice.
• Education:
  
  Master’s degree in Nursing or a related field.
