Site​/Civil & Utilities Estimator

Pay Range: $90,000 – $140,000 per year (commensurate with experience)

Brennan Construction Company is a fifth-generation, family-owned contractor with over 125 years of experience delivering infrastructure, site development, and utility projects throughout Connecticut. We specialize in underground utilities, site excavation, environmental, water, and wastewater construction.

We’re looking for an Experienced Site / Civil & Utilities Estimator who wants more than just takeoffs and spreadsheets. This role is for someone who understands how bids are won, how risk is managed, and how smart estimating directly impacts company success.

• Prepare accurate, timely cost estimates based on drawings, specifications, and bid documents
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for site work, mass excavation, underground utilities, paving, and restoration
• Develop and apply labor, equipment, and production rates
• Solicit, review, level, and analyze subcontractor and supplier pricing
• Evaluate bid documents to identify scope gaps, risks, constructability issues, and schedule impacts
• Understand project logistics, sequencing, and execution requirements
• Collaborate with Executive Leadership to review estimates and pricing strategies
• Attend pre-bid site visits, preconstruction meetings, and client meetings
• Assist Project Management and Engineering with change order pricing and proposals
• Support effective handoff from estimating through project execution

• 5+ years of experience in Civil and Utility construction estimating
• Strong knowledge of site work, earth excavation, utilities, and paving
• Bachelor’s degree in construction management or civil engineering preferred, but not required
• Experience using estimating software (
  HCSS Heavy Bid, or similar strongly preferred
  )
• Strong understanding of construction costs, production rates, and engineering principles
• Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports
• Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple bids simultaneously
• Knowledge of environmental or contaminated soil considerations
